This tips and trick How to Turn off Windows Network Discovery in 3 Steps was related with my last tutorial about how to detect other computer in your network in 3 steps.

Like what I said on my previous tips and trick, the opened network discovery status in your computer will allow other computers in the same network to see your IP and MAC address.

Maybe you will ask, why I need to turn on or off this network discovery option? sometimes you will need to share your data or information with other computer in your network, let say sharing a printer, sharing a file, sharing songs, and so on. Many users not comfortable to access other shared computer by trailing backslash \\IP_ADDRESS that's why some of users they turn this feature on to make the process easier and more user friendly.

Step by step How to Turn off Windows Network Discovery in 3 Steps:

1. Open your control panel (click RUN and type CONTROL)

2. Search for Network and Sharing Center ► Advanced Sharing Center

3. Search for Network discovery option (see picture below)

How to Turn off Windows Network Discovery in 3 Steps

There is an option for Home or Work and Public. You can choose which one most suitable for your configuration.

After turn it off, you can go back to this tutorial detect other computer in your network in 3 steps and check the arp -a result.

Conclusions:

1. Turn the Network discovery to off will prevent other users in your local area network to know your IP address and MAC while they run arp -a command
